Barcelona’s Vegan CAT BAR

Let’s keep this short and sweet—or savoury.

I’d like to recommend Cat Bar in Barcelona for all of the vegans—and non-vegans—out there. If you like big, delicious, flavoursome burgers, this is the place for you. If you’re a fan of potatoes in any form (chips, jackets, wedges etc), this is also the place for you.

Located at Carrer de la Bòria 17, 08003 Barcelona, Spain; which is a super chilled hippie-ish side road, is Cat Bar. It is a 13 minute walk from the Passeig de Lluís Companys (or half of that time, if you know where you’re going—and aren’t using a map). Surrounding the area, is lots of culture, in a relaxing environment. It gave me an overwhelming feeling of nostalgia, for the fact that is reminded me of Moseley Village at night—which is where I was raised.

You will also see a lot of dogs (with owners) which is great if you’re a dog person. If you’re like me, and petrified of dogs, please keep your eyes peeled. There are dogs galore.

I visited Cat Bar twice. On my first visit, I tried the Hemp Burger with fries. Fries that were small, and thick, in the shape of potato cubes—and they were amazing. The burger was absolutely delicious as well. It was my first time trying a hemp burger, and the flavour reminded me of barbecued food.

On my second visit, I tried the Black Bean Burger with fries. I’m already a black bean fan, so I knew that I would like it. The black beans were accompanied with herbs, and all of the flavours accentuated one another very well. The burgers are very big, so you might not finish it, but you’ll certainly be full.

The burgers are the best vegan burgers I’ve had thus far.

The bar also sells a wide range of beers. I’m not an alcohol drinker, so I didn’t try any of the beers, but if you enjoy an alcoholic beverage, I’m sure you’ll find something lovely to accompany your food.

Before I forget, I must mention the live music. There is a piano, placed in the middle of the bar/restaurant, and people come in to play live music. I’m not sure whether the individuals are just locals who can play, or professional artists from the area, but they are extremely talented. There’s nothing but good vibes throughout Cat Bar, and visiting was an amazing experience for me. I visited with my sister, who isn’t vegan, and she enjoyed it—wanting to go back on another day.

Listed below are the opening hours:

  • Mon 6:30 pm-11:00 pm
  • Tue 6:30 pm-11:00 pm
  • Wed 6:30 pm-11:00 pm
  • Thu 12:30 pm-11:00 pm
  • Fri 12:30 pm-11:00 pm
  • Sat 12:30 pm-11:00 pm

Hours may vary—please call to confirm.

NB. Cat Bar is a small place so I wouldn’t recommend visits to a large group of people. I’d say 2-4 people maximum should go together, in order to get a table together.

Not as short as I intended, but I hope that this post helps anyone visiting, or living in, Barcelona—looking for somewhere new to try.

Love and light, Liss x
